A discovery phase is rarely one questionnaire. It is a set of them, each aimed at a different role, going out to different people on the same engagement at roughly the same time. A round is the container for that: it groups the questionnaires, ties them to the work, and rolls up where the whole thing stands.
Create one
- Open Discovery in the sidebar and choose New round.
- Give it a name — the engagement it belongs to, not the questionnaire.
- Bind it to a deal or a project. That is what puts the round on the record and tells the round which company it is about.
- Add the questionnaires that make up the round.
The board
The round page answers "where are we?" without opening a single questionnaire:
- Questionnaires — how many are in the round, and how many have not gone out yet.
- Returned — how many of the people you can actually reach have answered, as a count and a percentage.
- Opened, stopped — people who looked and did not finish. The nudge list.
- In progress — saved answers, not yet submitted.
- Undeliverable — bad addresses, kept separate from the return rate because a bounce is not a slow reply.
Waiting on
Below the numbers is the list of actual people the round is still waiting on, across every questionnaire in it, ordered so the ones worth chasing first come first. This is the list you work from.
Send from the round
Each questionnaire in the round has its own Send button. Because the round already knows the deal or project, the send is pre-linked to it, and the recipient picker starts narrowed to that company's people — you are almost never sending a discovery questionnaire to somebody outside the client.
The round shows up on the work
A round bound to a deal or project appears on that record, so somebody opening the deal sees discovery is in flight without knowing to look under Discovery. Editing the round lets you change its name, description, status and what it is bound to; questionnaires can be added or removed at any time.
Editing a questionnaire mid-round
A round links to its questionnaires rather than copying them, so an edit is live immediately — including for links already in inboxes. Fixing a typo is exactly what you want that to do. Restructuring an instrument people are half-way through is not, so make the big changes before the round goes out.
